Batteries

Batteries are an electrochemical power source and energy storage device composed of one or multiple cells connected in series, parallel, or a combination of both. The various connections are determined by the specified voltage and capacity of each battery. When a battery is used, chemical reactions take place to produce electrical energy.

Batteries come in all shapes, sizes, and variations depending on their purpose. Common types of batteries include alkaline (non-rechargeable), NiMH (rechargeable), Li-Ion (rechargeable), and lead-acid (rechargeable). Rechargeable batteries feature a recharge cycle which allows them to be used more than once. Depending on the type, some batteries can last for years while other are designed for single-use. Batteries can provide different levels of voltage and current depending on their size and design. They are widely used in many everyday items such as computers, phones, audio equipment, medical devices, toys, tools and automobiles.
