Sigma Designs, based in Fremont, California, was founded in 1982 and has locations all over the world, including Canada, Denmark, France, Israel, and Japan.

Sigma Designs owns the intellectual property for Z-Wave home control technology and was one of two chip makers. Sigma had alliances with other technology companies, including Microsoft. Additionally, their products are found in stand-alone full HD multimedia players.
