Silicon Surge Protectors

Silicon Surge Protectors are electronic devices designed to protect electronic equipment from voltage surges and transients caused by lightning strikes, power outages, and other electrical disturbances.

The surge protector is essentially a voltage limiter that is designed to limit the voltage to a safe level that will not damage the electronic equipment. The surge protector works by diverting the excess voltage to a grounding circuit, preventing it from reaching the equipment.

Silicon surge protectors typically consist of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) or a transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode, which are both types of semiconductor devices that can handle high voltages and transient currents. These devices are connected between the power supply and the electronic equipment to be protected.

When a voltage surge or transient occurs, the MOV or TVS diode conducts current and diverts the excess voltage to ground, protecting the electronic equipment from damage. Once the voltage surge or transient subsides, the MOV or TVS diode returns to its normal non-conducting state.
